Argentina Survey: Condom Use in Stable Relationships

A survey in Buenos Aires for World Condom Day revealed that many Argentines do not use condoms with stable partners, relying on trust instead. Others, however, prioritize protection, especially with new partners.

Argentina Survey: Condom Use in Stable Relationships

Buenos Aires, Feb 13 (NA) - Several people admitted not using a condom if they are in a stable relationship, although some revealed that if they were single, they would not hesitate to use one. This emerged from a survey conducted on the 'Vamos Rivadavia' program, hosted by Nelson Castro on Radio Rivadavia, within the framework of World Condom Day, which is celebrated this Friday, and to which the Argentine News Agency had access. One of those surveyed indicated: 'I only don't use a condom when I'm with my partner, but I also don't ejaculate inside.' Another respondent mentioned pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), a medication against HIV that seronegative people take and which reduces the risk of contracting the virus by 99% and by at least 74% the risk caused by injectable drug use. Another person surveyed said: 'I don't use a condom with my stable partner because I know neither of us has anything, but if it were a stranger, I would use it.' 'Very rarely, once a year at most,' said another respondent. Meanwhile, another of those surveyed noted: 'I have a girlfriend and I usually use a condom because it's the most feasible method to protect oneself.' 'I'm single, I'm gay, I use [a condom]. Sometimes it's not the best, but it's to prevent diseases. If the woman doesn't insist, sometimes it happens that they don't use it.' To conclude the survey, a kiosk owner stated that 'sales are low', despite the fact that the cheapest box with 3 condoms costs 1,700 pesos and the most expensive 3,000. A woman who participated in the survey said: 'I've been with someone stable for a short time, and every time we see each other, he always uses it. Most don't, and they take it badly that they have to use it. It's uncomfortable, but you have to use it.'
